Lip Filler

Lip Filler

Lips are one of the most prominent features in facial aesthetics. Particularly in women, full and plump lips represent attractiveness and femininity.

Adhering to the golden ratio, achieving a more aesthetic and appealing facial expression is possible through lip filler. Lip filler is an art and is not applied the same way to every lip.

Who Is Lip Filler For and What Is Its Purpose?

Lip filler is one of the preferred aesthetic procedures both in younger and older ages.

As lips age, they lose their shape, become thinner, and curl inward. With the sagging of the lip edges downwards, a person may appear older and more melancholic than they are.

In younger patients, lip filler is usually performed to make thin lips fuller or to correct asymmetry, while in older individuals, it aims to restore lost volume and inward curling without deviating from naturalness.

Additionally, lip contour can be accentuated and fine lines on the lips (barcode lines) can be eliminated with lip filler.

How Is Lip Filler Done?

Lip filler is performed using fillers containing Hyaluronic acid, which is entirely compatible with our bodies.

Since lips are sensitive, they are numbed with local anesthetic creams about 20-30 minutes before the procedure to prevent pain or discomfort. Then, injections are started using very fine needles or cannulas. The procedure takes approximately 15-20 minutes, and one can comfortably return to social life on the same day.

When Can the Effects of Lip Filler Be Noticed?

Immediately after the procedure, the increase in lip volume and changes in shape are noticeable. There might be swelling and bruising in the first few days after the procedure, but they decrease over time. It takes about 2 weeks for the lips to fully settle into their shape. Since Hyaluronic acid has a high water retention capacity, the lips appear more moisturized and healthier after the filler application.

How Long Does Lip Filler Last?

The durability of lip filler depends on the characteristics of the filler used, the amount applied, and the individual's structural features. The duration of effectiveness varies between 4-12 months. Not all Hyaluronic acid fillers are permanent and they are gradually absorbed by the body over time.

Russian Lip Technique in Lip Filler

In recent years, the Russian technique developed by Russian doctors and spread worldwide has become quite popular in lip filler.

With this technique, besides achieving plump lips, lips that are inwardly curled can also be elegantly curved outward.

How Is Russian Lip Filler Done?

The application method is different from other techniques. The filler is applied to many points in small amounts using very fine needles. Since the filler is injected vertically, the lip lines become perfectly defined, and the lips are curved outward. The lips become voluminous and very attractive.

When the technique is applied correctly, it does not create a duck-like appearance.

For Which Lips Is Russian Lip Filler Suitable?

It can be applied to all types of lips, but the lip structure should be evaluated by the treating doctor beforehand. This technique is more successful in individuals who have not undergone lip filler before because if there is previously applied lip filler, the lips may not be able to curl outward as desired.

What Are the Possible Side Effects After Lip Filler?

As with all procedures performed by injection, swelling, bruising, and bleeding may occur. This is a normal condition and diminishes within a few days.

Precautions Before Lip Filler Procedure?

Approximately one week before the procedure, blood thinners such as aspirin should be discontinued, and supplements that increase the risk of bleeding such as vitamin E and green tea should be avoided. All painkillers and alcohol use should be discontinued two days before. If there is a skin infection such as herpes in the application area or its surroundings, it must be treated, and the procedure should be performed after the treatment is completed. If possible, makeup should not be applied and the face should be clean before the appointment.

Post-Lip Filler Care

After lip filler, excessive facial expressions, consuming hot foods or beverages, and smoking are prohibited for at least 3 hours. To avoid infection, lipstick and similar products should not be applied on the same day. Particularly in the first week, trauma should be avoided, and massages should not be performed.
