Enzyme peels are highly successful treatments for skin discoloration and contain enzymes that suppress the formation of discoloration while also having mild exfoliating properties.
Cosmelan is used for more superficial discolorations, while Dermamelan is used for deeper discolorations. Enzyme peel treatment is a powerful procedure and must be performed by expert physicians in the field.
The pigment that gives color to the skin is called melanin pigment. Melanin pigments are produced in cells called melanocytes in our skin. If melanocytes produce an excessive amount of pigment, unwanted spots appear on the skin. Enzyme peels suppress the enzyme Tyrosinase, reducing the production of melanin pigment from melanocyte cells and causing superficial peeling in the discolored areas. As a result, melanin formation in the skin decreases, the color of darkened areas lightens, renewed skin emerges from underneath, and effective treatment of spots is achieved.
In Which Cases is Cosmelan – Dermamelan Treatment Effective?
Enzyme peel applications are effective in the treatment of spots that occur with advanced age, melasma spots, dark spots due to skin diseases and traumas, acne spots, and sunspots.
How is Cosmelan – Dermamelan Applied?
First, the treating physician decides which product to use based on the depth of the spot and the patient's skin type. Cosmelan – Dermamelan spot treatment is a single-session procedure, and each kit is personalized to the individual.
The application is two-phased. The first phase is the mask applied by the physician, and the other is the creams for the patient to continue at home. The entire mask must be applied in one session.
1. The area to be treated is cleaned with a special solution found in the treatment kit.
2. The entire mask is applied. The mask is left on the skin for an average of 8-12 hours, depending on the skin type and intensity of the spots, as decided by the doctor.
3. After the designated time, the skin must be washed with lukewarm water at home.
4. After washing off the mask, the second phase, which is the maintenance program, begins. Soothing creams are used for about 5 days to alleviate redness and mild peeling after the mask. Then, products to suppress the spot are applied.
For the treatment to be effective, regular application of the maintenance cream along with the use of sunscreen is necessary.
When Does the Effect of Cosmelan – Dermamelan Treatment Begin to Be Noticed?
The time it takes for the treatment to take effect varies from person to person and depends on the depth of the spot. However, changes are generally noticed one week after the treatment, and the skin becomes brighter and healthier-looking between 2 to 3 weeks. Noticeable reduction in dark spots occurs between 4 to 6 weeks.
