Hair Loss Causes and Treatments

HAIR LOSS CAUSES AND TREATMENTS

Hair loss is a distressing condition for both men and women. While it's normal to lose about 100 strands of hair per day, exceeding this number indicates a problem. To treat hair loss, we first need to identify the underlying causes. Let's explore some reasons for hair loss:

- Hair loss during seasonal transitions is common and usually resolves on its own after a while.

- Both men and women can experience genetic pattern hair loss. Hair thinning starts at the crown of the head and progresses to thinning.

- You may have a skin condition affecting the hair follicles, leading to hair thinning and loss. It's essential to undergo a dermatological examination to determine if you have such a condition.

- Postpartum hair loss typically begins around 4 months after childbirth. This is due to the shedding of hair that didn't fall out during pregnancy. Eventually, hair growth resumes.

- Major surgical procedures, rapid weight loss, significant traumas, and stress can exacerbate hair loss.

- Anemia, thyroid disorders, deficiencies in B12, D vitamin, folic acid, biotin, and zinc are also among the causes of hair loss.

TREATMENTS FOR HAIR LOSS:

Once the causes of hair loss are identified, treatments targeting these causes should be provided. Additionally, specific treatments to promote hair growth, strengthen, and thicken the hair should be initiated.

  1. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy: Blood is drawn from the patient and centrifuged to separate the platelet-rich serum, which is then injected into the scalp to stimulate hair follicles. Treatment sessions continue at intervals until the desired results are achieved. PRP therapy is often more successful when combined with hair mesotherapy.
  2. Hair Mesotherapy: Products containing essential vitamins, minerals, or amino acids necessary for hair growth and proliferation are injected into the hair follicles. Treatment sessions continue at intervals until the desired results are achieved. Hair follicles are stimulated, leading to the regrowth of healthier hair. Hair mesotherapy is usually more effective when combined with PRP therapy.
  3. Topical Treatments: Products containing minoxidil or procapil are often used, especially in patients with male pattern hair loss, to complement other treatments and increase success rates.
  4. Oral Treatments: Specialized hair vitamin supplements can be taken to improve hair nutrition. Additionally, medications containing finasteride can be used under doctor supervision, particularly in patients with male pattern hair loss.
  5. Autologous Micrograft Application: In suitable candidates, small pieces obtained from the back of the ear through punch biopsy are separated after a special procedure. The obtained precursor cells are then applied to the hair follicles, stimulating strong new hair growth. The procedure is performed in a single session and can be repeated after 1.5 to 2 years if necessary.
