Eczema can be treated with creams or oral medication. The severity of the disease affects the way and process of treatment. If the cause is something you cannot control, such as genetics, eczema can be difficult to treat. Fortunately, you can have some influence over your environment and stress levels. Do your best to find out what triggers or worsens your eczema and then avoid it. Reducing itching and discomfort and preventing infection is the main goal. Another treatment method is a patch test. This test is done when eczema is suspected to be due to allergic causes. Patches containing common allergens are placed on your back and left for 48 hours. When the patches are removed, it is observed whether there is an allergic reaction in the area. If the patch test is inconclusive, a biopsy is performed. Any health problem may have triggered eczema. A piece is taken from the eczema area and a skin lesion biopsy is performed.
